Meatballs with Sesame Seeds

Ingredients:
  • 3 slices sandwich bread crusts removed
  • 1/3 cup (90 ml) milk
  • 1 1/2 lb (750 g) ground (minced) beef
  • 1 large egg, lightly beaten
  • 2 tablespoons finely chopped Parsley
  • 1/2 clove garlic, finely chopped
  • 1/4 teaspoon freshly grated nutmeg
  • Salt and freshly ground black pepper
  • 4 oz(125 g) Mozarella cheese, cut into small cubes
  • 2 large pieces red bell pepper (capsicum) preserved in oil, drained and cut into small cubes
  • 4 tablespoons sesame seeds
  • 2 cups (500 ml) olive oil, for frying

Procedure:
  1. Soak the bread in the milk in a large bowl
  2. Drain well, squeezing out the excess milk. Break the bread into pieces
  3. Add the beef, egg, parsley, garlic, and nutmeg and mix well. Season with salt and pepper
  4. Shape the mixture into balls the size of walnuts
  5. Press a piece of Mozarella and bell pepper into the center of each meatball. Close up the meatball
  6. Place the sesame seeds on a plate. Roll the meatballs in the sesame seeds, coating well
  7. Heat the oil in a deep-fryer or frying pan to very hot
  8. Fry the fritters in batches until golden brown over. Remove with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels
  9. Serve hot
